The days that are not marked

World Suicide Prevention Day was five days ago. The posts have slowed. The profile frames are coming down.
This is the part that matters most.
Awareness days do something real. For a day, the thing gets said out loud, and people who felt alone see that they are not. That has value. The silence those days interrupt does not go anywhere, though. It waits, and by the ordinary Tuesday three weeks later, it has settled back in.
The person struggling in your service is not struggling to a schedule. It will be a random night after a bad job, when there is no campaign running.
So the question the week leaves us with is not “did we mark it”. It is “what do we do on all the days that are not marked”. The check-in that is not prompted by a date. The support that is there in an ordinary week. The colleague who asks because they noticed.
That is the work, and it does not have a date. It is every week, or it is not really there at all.
